Cowling Arboretum

This sample itinerary can be customized for any time of year.

This picturesque town is located along the Cannon River, south of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Groups are invited to enjoy all that Northfield has to offer.

DAY ONE
10 – 11:30am

Spend your morning strolling through Northfield’s Japanese Garden, located on the campus of Carleton College. Designed by Dr. David Slawson, this garden embodies the philosophy of fulfillment found in harmony and tranquility of the body, mind and spirit.

11:30am – 1:00pm
Lunch will be at Hogan Brothers Acoustic Café. With a wide variety of hoagies, flatbreads and extra goodies, your group will have many delicious options to choose from.

1 – 3:00pm
Start this afternoon learning about the unique history of Northfield. At the Historical Society & Museum, your groups will experience life in the 1800s and learn of the bank that the James-Younger Gang attempted to rob in 1876.

3 – 5:00pm
Interested in Norwegian history? The Norwegian-American Historical Association features letters, papers, books, periodicals, photographs, diaries and newspapers all related to the life and history of Norwegian-Americans.

5 – 7:00pm
Enjoy an authentic Japanese dinner! Tokyo Grill has many delicious fresh options from sushi and Hibachi to chicken and steak, making each meal unique for every member in your group.

7 – 9:00pm
Enjoy the views of Cannon River with a Riverwalk this evening. Visit one-of-a-kind shops or walk along the glowing waterfall. If you tour during summer weekends, the Riverwalk Market Fair includes fine art, organic produce, artisan foods and local music.

DAY TWO
9 – 10:00am
Start your morning at Brick Oven Bakery for delicious handcrafted breads. Choose from a variety of breads, rolls, sticky buns, scones and cookies.

10:00am – 2:00pm
Spend the day outdoors at the Cowling Arboretum. Hiking, skiing and fishing are just a few things you can enjoy here. With upland and lowland forests and a 150-acre prairie restoration, this is also a great opportunity to watch birds and other wildlife.
