Remember Christmas time as a kid? Setting up the electric train for Santa, or visiting a holiday train display in your favorite storefront window? It’s like that every day here at the Iron Spike! Bring your groups to this museum to enjoy a sense of wonder as the train chugs around the track, through the towns of imagination, the landscapes of the past, and places yet unknown.
The Iron Spike Model Railroad Museum is the result of inspiration; a dream come true for people who grew up playing with model trains and who bring that spirit to this museum. Don Burhans and his wife Claire have created a museum for railroad enthusiasts, model railroaders, railroad historians, and educators interested in preserving and sharing their knowledge and passion, and inspiring the next generation to carry on after us.
The museum includes HO and N scale layouts, both on exhibit and in process. They offer numerous train-related events throughout the year, a large railroad-related library, speakers, train shows and swaps. But the heart of the museum will always be the layouts: works in progress, and evolving over time.
While you are in Washington, experience a real life train ready to take your groups on a ride. Ride the Amtrak Missouri River Runner passenger train as it stops at the old depot.
