This sample itinerary is best spring through fall, but can be customized for any time of year.
1 – 3:00 pm
Begin your day in Charlevoix, MI with a tour of Castle Farms. This nationally acclaimed French Renaissance Castle offers old world charm and modern day amenities. Majestic stonework is shown throughout the towers and courtyards of this historic gem, completely restored beyond its original splendor. Groups love the expansive gardens, hedge maze and garden railroad.
3 – 4:30 pm
In keeping with a garden theme, travel the short distance to Lavender Hill Farms. Rolling hills of lavender are creating a must see destination for tourists. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the fields, join a class in making lavender wands, sample lemonade and lavender shortbread, shop a while in the gift shop, or sit under the big walnut tree to relax. Groups can schedule a tour or consultation on growing lavender or beekeeping.
4:30 – 6:00 pm
Travel to Grayling and spend the night at the Ramada Inn.
8 – 8:30 am
After breakfast board the coach for Wellington Farms. They offer a rare opportunity for your group to visit the Great Depression.
8:30 – 10:30 am
A shuttle will transport your group to the historic complex. Explore the Stittsville Church, the Summer Kitchen, John Schram’s Blacksmith Shop, where often on weekends you will find a blacksmith hard at work at the forge. Next stop is Junior Wakeley’s Sawmill where you will get a brief history of the logging era and the part this mill played, and the last stop of your guided tour is the Grist Mill, where, if the miller is in, you may be able to see cornmeal or barley flour being ground. Stop by the well stocked Visitor Center before you leave, offering Amish farm baked pies, jams and jellies, hand made wooden toys and more!
10:30 – 2:00 pm
Make your way south to Grand Rapids, MI. Lunch will be along the way.
2 – 5:00 pm
Welcome to Grand Rapids and the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, a perfect place to stretch your legs. This 132-acre haven integrates horticulture and sculpture throughout its site, setting it apart from other more traditional botanic gardens. Marvel at Michigan’s largest tropical conservatory; arid and Victorian gardens.
5 – 7:00 pm
Enjoy dinner at one of the area’s many Farm to Fork restaurants. Consider six.one.six. Eat local and feel global in this signature restaurant. The chef’s pantry is bursting with locally grown ingredients, some of which are picked just a few feet away at the JW Chef’s Garden.
Relax and spend the night at the Sleep Inn & Suites.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and depart.
8 – 9:30
Your group can travel to Webberville and tour Northfork Outback Horse & Adventure Camps. While this is more geared toward kids, their 1800’s Wild West Adventure may offer something fun for your group as well. And everyone always feels better after visiting with a horse.
